Commissioned by the Capital Development Board, Springfield, Illinois, as part of the State of Illinois Percent for the Arts Program, to create a piece of sculpture for the new Veterinary Medicine Building on the south campus of the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. All processes involved in creation of this work, including bronze casting, finishing, and steel fabrication, were performed by the artist. The piece was installed on September 1, 1983, and dedicated July 11, 1984.
